The hoped for success
after an underperformance at home was not forthcoming at Lytham St Annes
last Saturday, and Fylde’s understandable late pressure to secure a
fourth try and a bonus point erased the losing bonus point to which the
Lions were desperately clinging. This was all the more disappointing in
view of the late rally that had brought the Lions score to within seven
points of Fylde’s.
Darlington Mowden Park have played 15 of the scheduled 16 league games
so far and have won six, lost eight and drawn one. They are currently in
mid-table, one place above the Lions, but with a game in hand. Their
home wins were against Bedford Athletic, Bradford & Bingley, Darlington,
Kendal and Rugby. Away from home they beat New Brighton and drew with
Dudley Kingswinford. They surprisingly lost their recent home game with
DK and last Saturday they were beaten at home by near neighbours
Blaydon. Earlier in the season they lost home games to Cleckheaton and
league leaders Halifax. Lost away games include Darlington, Fylde,
Macclesfield and Tynedale.
After next Saturday’s
game there will only be four more home league games left. A season that
started with promise seems to have got bogged down of late, but there
still continue to be glimpses of something better. It is now time for
the Lions to fulfill that promise so that the rebuilding of the Rugby
Lions as a National League club can continue into next season. |
