Rugby Lions performed brilliantly to win the O L’s tournament from Stoke Old Boys at the week-end.  Lions scored 13 tries whilst only conceding 1 in an all action display of great attacking Rugby, allied to gritty defence.  Rugby welcoming Tom Stancer to the fold showing that they are now blessed with impressive strength in depth and because of this, a number of good players had to sit out the early fixtures.  Accordingly, special mention must be made of Rory Holmes, Jack Webb, Tristan Humphrey, Jack Harris and Wil Shimwell – all were unlucky not to start, but overcame this early disappointment to make high impact replacements later in the tournament.  Rugby’s forwards stepped up a gear from the off and their forceful display (usually against bigger opponents) produced a surfeit of quality ball for their silky running backs.  In the final ‘must win’ fixture Rugby played every squad member in rotation and everybody contributed to an exhilarating display of running Rugby to take the title.  Rugby’s tries were scored by Kiron Phillips (8), Ben Warman (2), Zack Baldwin (2) and Tom Swindell.  Kiron Phillips kicked all the conversions bar two and because of his general play and the mature way he led the team throughout the tournament, he just pipped Ben Warman and Zack Baldwin in the vote for ‘Man of the Tournament’.  To be fair though, every member of the squad played well enough to deserve an award - it was one of those days.  As the satisfied crowd streamed away the coaches could be seen patting themselves on the back and rehearsing ‘My hat it has 3 Corners’.  Squad: Jake Scott, Jack Webb, Tristan Humphrey, Peter Harris, Alex Kukielko, Luke Smith, Tom Stancer, Wil Shimwell, Ben Warman, Tom Swindell, Rich Bannister, Stitch Loydall, Kiron Phillips (capt), James Scott, Kyle Webster, Jack Harris, Rory Holmes, Zack Baldwin.
