Wolverhampton 38 v 14 Rugby Lions

On a near perfect pitch for running rugby both teams played some great rugby at times. The lions started brightly with centre Jack Riley making a surging run down the wing only for the final pass to go astray. It was wolves however who scored first when the lions defence were out numbered out wide for their winger to score in the corner. Wolves with their big mobile set of forwards denied the lions any room turning the lions over on several occasion. It was from turnover ball that Wolves scored twice more. Rugby took stock and began to work their way back into the game. Robert Mackenzie, Joe Bercis and Tom Dixon worked hard to secure quality ball for the backs. The lions finally scored from concerted pressure near the Wolves line. Jack Riley was fed quick ball from fly half Greg Clarke who was tackled short of the line, but Harrison lee Everton was on hand to snipe over from close range.

The second half saw Rugby concede further tries to the well organised Wolves attack but to the lions credit they never let their heads drop and kept going right to the final whistle which led to a well taken try by centre Tom Findley after some slick ball handling by Greg Clarke and Jack Riley. Overall a much improved performance against a big, mobile team. Work needs to be done on defensive organisation and communication between players.

Lions 34-12 Banbury

Lions got back to winning ways with this convincing victory against a powerful Banbury side. Lions completely dominated the 1st half, running in 4 tries. The 1st two of which were scored by Matt Haycock. Centre Tom Swift then ran in the 1st of his three tries, bursting down the wing to score a great solo effort.  Rob Hughes then dummied his way through to score Lions' 4th try under the posts, and he then stepped up to convert his own try.
Banbury played a lot better in the 2nd half, mainly due to Lions stepping off the gas slightly. Lions though still managed to score 2 more tries, both of which were scored by Tom Swift, completing his hat trick. One conversion from Stuart Houghton and 2 tries and one conversion for Banbury, gave a final score of Lions 34-12 Banbury.
