Rugby Under 12’s
35 points v
St Andrews Under 12’s 0 points
Shorn of 5 players through injury and illness Rugby
dug deep into the squad to produce another all round team performance
and as just reward for continuous pressure, Kyle Webster burst through
several tackles for an early try which was properly grounded in spite of
St Andrews best efforts. Rugby’s pack performed well throughout
and produced plenty of quality ball for their lively backs and although
St Andrews struggled manfully against the tide, they could not prevent a
further two tries from Ben Warman and a second from Kyle Webster.
At half time St Andrews re-grouped impressively and although the second
period was more evenly contested they could not stop the impressive Ben
Warman completing his hat trick. Kiron Phillips again captained
the side well and was Mr Cool in converting all 5 tries.
Rugby Under 12’s
33 points v
St Andrews Under 12’s 0 points
In the second match of the triangular competition
Rugby carried on where they left off against St Andrews in running the
ball with power and pace to score a further 5 tries. Kyle Webster
continued his good form to score a trademark try and Tom Swindell, who
has turned out to be a real find for the Lions, scored a brace
sandwiched between a well earned forwards try from the hard working
Connor Jenkins and Stitch Loydall’s stylish sprint round the cover for
the final try wide out. Kiron Phillips (twice), Stitch Loydall and
Tom Swindell converted the tries. All in all Rugby produced two
good performances and their defense is particularly impressive – once
again no tries were conceded. Competition for the coveted ‘Man of
the Match’ award was intense but Peter Harris deservedly just pipped Ben
Warman, Connor Jenkins and the usual suspects in the backs.
Under 13’s
Rugby Lions 43 v Tamworth 7
Rugby fielded mainly a development side to face
Tamworth. The lions had the better of the early exchanges with Wagstaff
and Lewis making good breaks. Rugby had a couple of opportunities out
wide but failed to penetrate the Tamworth defence. It was Tamworth who
scored first after they broke from deep in their own half. With a couple
of soft missed tackles by Rugby they scored under the posts and
converted to give a 7 nil lead. Rugby responded themselves when Wagstaff
took a pass from prop Ben Everett to charge over in the corner .
The lions made several changes to personnel which
gave them more fire power. Within 2 minutes of the re-start the lions
took the lead when the backs were given quick ball to run with. It was
center Jack Riley using power and pace to score with Corey Venus adding
the conversion. With Rugby now being in the driving seat it was Dylan
Roberts adding another try again converted by Corey Venus. The forwards
started to play with more cohesion with Robert Mackenzie playing his
best game of the season so far. Jack Riley put the lions further ahead
when he took the ball down the blind side 40 meters out with only a
winger to beat there was only going to be one outcome , Corey again
adding the extra points. Robert Mackenzie justafiably got his name on
the score sheet when he took a pass from Henry Spiby to crash over and
score. Prop Ieuian Lewis added another try as the forwards totally
dominated posession of the ball never giving Tamworth any time to
re-organise in defence. Harry Ellis finished off the scoring for Rugby
in style when the ball was passed through several pairs of hands to
score under the posts with Corey adding the conversion. A big well done
to all 24 squad players for putting on a display of running rugby.
Leamington 0 The Rugby Lions U14’s 44. Sunday 18th
February
Another weekend another local(ish) derby. Though the
Leamington pitches are slightly on a slope the conditions were ideal for
free flowing Rugby and the Lions certainly didn’t disappoint the growing
crowd.
The opening sequence of play set the pattern for the
rest of the game with decision after decision going against the boys.
The Squad shouldered the added pressure brilliantly and after just four
minutes Rhys was opening the account for the Lions following some
excellent back row work – unconverted.
Creative forwards play on eleven minutes had Rhys
crossing again for his second try – Skez converting. The try of the game
had both Lions forwards and backs combining beautifully to run an attack
deep from within their own half. Clean line out ball sent the back row
through phase one defence, off loads sent the next wave through before
the backs quick hands finally sent Louis over in the corner – text book
try unconverted.
Having been unanswered in the first half the Lions
were up for doing some damage on the score board in the second.
The half had barely begun before good scrummage work
gave the backs the platform from which to launch the Skez over for try
number four – Sam converting.
Sticking to basic rugby the next try was a straight
forward pop and go, Jove receiving good ball from Greg drawing his man
before popping to Jack who, with body position low, ran through for try
number five – unconverted.
On ten minutes Greg chips a perfectly weighted ball
over the scrum for Craig to gather and touch down for his first and the
Lions sixth – unconverted. Buoyed by their efforts the Lions forwards
now wanted a piece of the action and homed in for a try of their own
only to be penalised on the line. The clearing kick resulted in a great
individual try from Craig who simply chipped and chased regained
possession and dove over for his second – unconverted.
Time for one more which summarised the Lions combined
performance through out the day. Quick thinking by Jove opens up the
Leams back line, off loading in the tackle sends Skez a further 10m
before the pursuing pack secure and set clean ball for Greg to release
the backs with Louis crossing over in the corner – unconverted.
Great work from all, worth mentioning the back row –
Luke, Aaron solid performance Chris improving with every game but man of
the match goes to Dan who put in an outstanding performance.
