Under 13’s.

Rugby Lions Development 5 v 28 Old Coventrians

The lions 32 player squad was re-shuffled to allow the development players match time. They started brightly but were caught out by their very quick centre that scored from long range. Old Coventrians scored 2 more converted tries after some weak tackling in the lions backs. Rugby did however pull a try back with Jake Wagstaff crashing over from close range. Rugby made further changes at half time but was unable to stop OC's from scoring again near the end. All in all not a bad display but work needs to be done on body positions in the contact area and tackling.

Under 14’s

Rugby Lions 17 Old Cov’s 12

Commitments else where this season have certainly pressured the u14’s. Playing a depleted pack the Lions showed real depth in holding their own against a well drilled and physical Old Cov’s.

The game began in a real flurry of activity with the Lions taking control of the ball in set piece and in loose. Following a determined period of forwards play the Lions back line attacked with great pace releasing Rhys on a 20m dash touching down under the posts – Craig converting.

An unbelievable 20min period saw the Lions camped in Old Cov’s territory unable to put points on the score board the first half ended 7 – 0

Boyed by the Lions failure to do the damage Old Cov’s came out of the blocks running and after just 4 mins scored there opening try, coming from a forwards orientated move – unconverted.

Lions hadn’t finished however, unable to find touch from a penalty Old Cov’s soon found them selves on the wrong end of another five points after Craig caught then chip and chased crossing over in the corner – unconverted.

Unfortunately, a poor tap down from a Lions line out followed by fumble over the line close to the posts soon had the opposition equalling the score.

The game now a draw the Lions realised they had to turn it up another notch. 6 mins later the answer came after good pressure from both sides a narrow opening was spotted. Another Craig chip and chase awarded Rhys with the spoils finishing the game 17-12. A very strong performance from Old Cov’s, an encouraging one from the mix of personnel we had. Huge thank you to Louis for literally stepping in at the deep end. Man of the match for his determination Craig.
