Under 13’s

Rugby Lions Dev 27 v 25 Newbold

The lions used this game to as a development game as Newbold have just formed their under 13’s team. The lions sent 3 players over as well to even up the teams. The game kicked off with rugby dominating possession and territory with "G" Matthews and Tom Findley playing well. The backs saw plenty of ball but could not break through some stout defence from Newbold. Rugby finally breeched the Newbold line when "G" Matthews broke clear from 20 meters out. Further tries were scored through Olly Machon and 3 more from "G" Matthews. The lions swapped players around to even things up which gave Newbold more possession which they used to good effect scoring 5 tries themselves in the 2nd half. What was pleasing was the ball handling and tackling from every player which was a big improvement on last week. Well done to those players who played for Newbold and to the Lions players who kept going right to the final whistle.

Burntwood U15s  25 – 41 Lions U15s

This was an end to end action packed game.  Burntwood were short of numbers and thanks go to Lions Tom Holroyd, Tom Miller and Mark Goodacre for evening up the sides. The Lions chose to spread the ball wide early in the game and Dan Oxberry used his pace to skirt the defence to score the opening try which Pollard converted.  The forwards then took their turn and the powerful Jack White scored two tries by taking cover tacklers over the line with him.  Burntwood hit back as "Traitor" Holroyd dived over to bring Burntwood back into the game. Burntwood rallied again as their No8 crashed over from a scrum to close the score.  Burntwood pressed again but fly half Pollard intercepted a potential scoring pass and sprinted 80 yds to score beneath the posts for a 10- 26 lead at half time.  A great move from the Lions saw Edwards score in the corner after Michael Bentham from full back came into the line to draw the cover defence and timed his pass perfectly. The Lions extended their lead as Oxberry broke the defence again after a mazy run and Tom Barton was on hand to dive over and score his first try of the season. Hooker, Will Penlington did likewise as he peeled from a maul with tremendous pace to step the fullback and score beneath the posts for Jamie Maxwell to convert. Once again Burntwood hit back with two pick and drive tries from the No8 as the Lions forwards repeatedly refused to commit to the rucks. Goodacre came close to scoring twice for Burntwood as the Lions forwards stood back and relinquished possession. Finally, Holroyd rounded off Burntwood’s scoring to dive in at the corner to close the game

Under 16’s

Another Lions victory, making it 10 unbeaten games in a row despite the fact that Lions were under strength with only 15 players and no subs. Lions didn't perform at their best in this game, but still managed the victory. Which is obviously a sign of a good side. Lions started well with 2 tries from Matt Brazier, the second of which he ran from his own 22. Both tries were converted by Stuart Houghton. A good response from Bicester saw them go over for a score to bring the score to 14-5. Tom Swift then extended Lions' lead with a good finish in the corner following a great move. Bicester closed the gap again with a converted try just before half time.  The 2nd half was a scoreless scrappy affair, bringing the final score to Bicester 12-21 Lions
