After early sparring Kiron Phillips burst free to
score but Bromsgrove continued to work hard in a fierce contest.
The sides were evenly matched but the difference was Bromsgrove’s
turbo-charged winger who scored three tries all from long distance.
Rugby would not lie down and pinned Bromsgrove on their line until Tom
Swindell burrowed over close to the posts. Kiron Phillips kicked
the conversion for a tie at half time but the second half was
heartbreaking - the Lions showed great commitment but could
not match the blistering pace of Bromsgrove’s exceptional winger.

Hung over from Bromsgrove Rugby underperformed in a
scrappy contest punctuated with far too much whistle and lost when
recent form suggested a comfortable win. Birmingham scored twice
from spilled ball against the run of play but the final indignity came
when Birmingham knocked on 22 metres out and James Scott picked up to
cross near the posts but after calling advantage the referee
inexplicably bought play back for a scrum to Rugby. Lions eventually
showed glimpses of their true ability and Tom Swindell scored a fine
individual try that Kiron Phillips converted with the last kick.

Unhappy with the Birmingham debacle Rugby showed real
character right from the start. The whole squad played their part
in a much improved performance and for 15 minutes Sils were pinned down
allowing Zac Baldwin to plunder two tries and convert one. Rugby
suffered a setback in losing influential captain Kiron Phillips and
during the re-shuffle 'Sils' ran in three tries. With their backs
to the wall Lions scored again when Rory Holmes fed Jonny Ure who used
his own speed to score. Zac Baldwin laughed at the pressure to
convert for a well earned draw. The exceptional Tom Swindell was
voted 'Man of the Tournament'.
