Rugby Lions U11s - 3 v Old Leamingtonians U11s - 6

The Lions backs combined well on several occasions where the ball was passed all the way down the full back line to the wings from Tom Doherty, Ed Hands, Liam Deery, James Stewart to Oliver Howes and Tom Smith out on the wings. Oliver Howes making a couple of notable piercing runs before making the ball available for Rory Wagstaff and Jake Bramley who after breaking several tackles ran in a try a piece. Old Leams kept the pressure on despite some great tackles from Tom smith and full back Lewis Bloxam and an interception from Liam Deery they managed to run in a few tries. The forwards lead by Will Davies had a solid game with some great scrummaging, including winning an opposition scrum. Oliver O’Connor and Harry Turnock-Rogers again put in some decisive tackles to frustrate the opposition. In the second half the Lions had the better possession finishing off with a third try ran into the corner by Rory Wagstaff his second of the day. Despite the display of good team work it wasn’t enough to secure the win with final score Rugby Lions 3, Old Leams 6.

Rugby Lions U13 v Old Leamingtonians U13s

After their convincing win over Loughborough last week, the Under 13s came back down to earth with a big thud last Sunday as they lost 45-14 to Old Leamingtonians.

Rugby got off to a bad start when some poor defending allowed the home side to score 2 quick tries to take the score to 12-0. Jack Taylor narrowed the gap and with Oliver Robinson converting it looked like the tide might turn. However OLs were soon back on the front foot as they scored and converted a try just before half time.

In the second half Rugby got off to a great start with a try from Paddy Forde and conversion from Chris Easton which brought the lads back within touching distance at 19-14. However OLs were determined to make the most of their home advantage and punished some loose tackling from the Rugby team to run in 4 further tries before the final whistle to leave the final score 45-14.

Rugby Lions U15s - 24 v Old Leamingtonians U15s - 10

With 4 players not available and 6 at school of Rugby , the Lions only had 8 players available . OL’s kindly lent us 3 players to make an 11 a side game. The first half saw Rugby with plenty of possession of the ball but stout defence from Ol’s kept the score blank. Finally Rugby broke the deadlock when they won a ruck 15 metres out quick hands from the backs saw Williams go under the posts. Rugby scored again when winger Hobson found space out wide to score giving Rugby a lead of 12 – 0 at half time.

OL,s came out strongest in the 2nd half to reduce the deficit to 12 - 10 with 2 well taken tries. The Lions responded with two further tries from Wint and another from Williams to seal the victory. Having the extra space gave both teams an opportunity to play some good running rugby played in a great spirit. Thanks to Ol’s for sportingly giving us 3 players to allow the game to start.
