Rugby Lions Under 13s v Loughborough

The Under 13s entertained Loughborough at Webb Ellis Road last Sunday after a prolonged absence from competition owing to adverse weather conditions.

The ring rust showed in the first half and it was a very tight affair until Ciaran Wardle broke the deadlock to score the first try. The visitors soon hit back though with an interception try which was subsequently converted. At half time Rugby were behind 5-7 but the home spectators had the feeling that something special was about to happen in the second half.

That optimism was justified when minutes after the restart Jack Bayliss picked up a ball from the back of a ruck to charge over and put Rugby in front. Chris Easton converted to stretch the lead. Ashley Moore was next to get his name on the score sheet as he battered his way through the defence from a penalty and with Oliver Robinson converting the gap grew to 19-7. There were then 2 quick tries from Oliver Robinson and Charlie Smith who both had superb games and with both conversions going over Rugby were getting out of sight. With minutes remaining on the clock Chris Easton ran in the final try of the day and with Oliver Jones converting the final score finished at 40-7.

Rugby Lions U14s – 43 points v Market Bosworth U14s - 0 points (1st Game)

Rugby Lions U14s – 24 points v Market Bosworth U14s – 14 points (2nd Game)

Rugby U14s are in great form and their spirit, athleticism and organisation earned two well deserved victories against strong opponents.  The first match was frenetic and Rugby’s forwards were irresistible denying Bosworth possession and providing a platform for their electric backs to score 7 exhilarating unanswered tries.  Jackson Hughes, Jonny Ure and Zac Baldwin scored twice each while Tom Swindell nipped in for one.  Zac Baldwin kicked 4 conversions and Jackson Hughes was man of the match, but really every body deserved an award.

The second match was closer but Rugby monopolised early possession to score tries from Rich Bannister and Grant Northcott.  Bosworth hit back with two long distance tries but Lions were not to be beaten on this day and they roared back to score great tries from Ben Warman and again Grant Northcott. Harry Parsons kicked 2 conversions and Tom Reeve was man of the match.
