The Under 7s had there first festival together as a squad and they did their coaches proud, they battled hard all the way through the day taking alot of tags and scoring alot of tries.

Rugby U9’s squared up well for the Market Harborough Tournament, and from the start things were looking good.

Rugby v Market Harborough A 7-0

Rugby were organised from the start and a quick run up the pitch by Jack Woolliscroft gave them their first. Full of confidence it was quickly followed by a second by Sam Wright who was ably supported by Aiden Wardle. A tried and tested switch pass to Ben Dowling who cruised up the pitch gave Rugby their 3rd. Rugby was all over Market Harborough mostly due to the ever improving team play. The second half saw some thumping tackles, but Jack supported by Elliott Marshall scored again. The final few minutes saw more tries from Sam Wright and Jack. A final ditch attempt from Market Harborough was stopped in its tracks by John Turland.

Rugby v Barker Butts 2-1

A much tighter match all around although the first minute saw Ben Dowing coming out of the pack with the ball and passed to Callum Hopkins for the first try. This was followed by a brilliant piece of passing set up by Aiden Wardle which involved the whole team and eventually back to Aiden for the second try. In the second half there was constant pressure from Barker Butts which saw good defence including good play from new man Toby Cripps. In the end they did get through, but Rugby came out on top.

Rugby v Bletchley 0-2

Bletchley caught Rugby on the hop and drove it home quickly for their first try. Rugby retaliated and kept the ball in Bletchley’s half with some excellent tackles from Daniel Delbem. The second half saw a similar game and Rugby were unlucky not to score. Sam Wright and Elliott Marshall dug deep to keep the ball going forward, but a final flurry from Bletchley gave them a second try.

Rugby v Melton Mowbray 1-2

A very fast and physical match saw some good play from William Gregory and Edward Middleton Smith Yet again Ben Dowling produced a try saving tackle, but Melton Mowbray kept up the pressure leading to their first try. There was brutal and unrelenting tackling from the Rugby pack and Sam Davies was right in the thick of it. Eventually it paid off as Sam Wright scored putting us back in the game. All to play for in the last minute, but a final try by Melton Mowbray secured Rugby’s fate.

Rugby Lions U10s at Market Harborough Festival

The Rugby Lions U10s took a strong squad to this festival and the players rewarded their coaches faith in them with 3 games of really good rugby. Losing only one of their three games.
Unfortunately they lost the first game against Market Harborough ‘A’ by two tries to one. they battled hard but just couldn't make it over the line.

The second game against Barker Butts was a tale of two halves, at half time the Lions were two nil down but after a half time team talk they came out fighting and the game finished with the Lions winning by four tries to two, an impressive comeback!

Not wanting to make the same mistake again, they commanded the third game against Melton Mowbray from the start and won by two tries to nil.

Well done to the whole squad: Dominic Deery, Bevan, Zak Wright, Jordi Pocknell, Jack Cave, Tom Bailee, Findlay Williamson, Matty Tildesley, Ran Scott, Kieran Lorimer, Jamie Carwardine and Robert Jupp.

U11s Market Harborough Festival

Despite not getting the victories they deserved the U11s Lions played competitive rugby with only the odd try splitting them from some decent opposition. It was encouraging to see the team bonding together and starting to put some of the training ground disciplines into practice on the pitch.

Top try scorer Rory Wagstaff led the way in attack with able support by Ed Hands, Rory Campbell, Oliver Howes and Liam Deery. The half back partnership of Tom Doherty and Liam Wardle worked well with ball consistently being moved quickly to the backs. A definite improvement in our tackling in wide positions was led by James Stewart and Tom Smith supported by Lewis Bloxam at fullback and centre.

With Harry Turnock-Rogers, Jake Bramley, Oliver O’Conner and Will Davis being as dependable as ever up front it was great to see the forwards controlling ball and driving the opposition backwards both at ruck and maul.

Rugby Lions U13s vs Barkers Butts

The Under 13s were away from home last Sunday against Barkers Butts.

Both sides were evenly matched and there was excellent defence from both sides which kept the score at 0-0 at half time.

In the second half Rugby came out with renewed vigour and after some good forward play the lads soon found themselves camped inside the Barkers Butts 22 metre line. After some fumbled handling from the home side, Rugby were awarded a scrumage within sight of the try line. The Rugby pack put in a solid push and moved even closer and then Ashley Moore saw an opportunity and picked the ball up at number 8 and crashed over for a well deserved try. With 15 minutes left of the game Barkers tried to pull the score back but were thwarted on each attempt by some very strong tackling from Alex Rae and Paddy Forde.

When the whistle went Rugby came out on top in what was a well contested physical match.

Mkt Bosworth - 14 pts vs Rugby Lions U16s - 25 pts

What a game . Huge game from the front unit doing all the damage for the full 70mins.

Tries by Greg (2), Joe and Ben Cary at the close against two converted tries from Bos at the start of the second half when 5 pairs of fresh legs came on a made the difference for the home side. The Lions soaked up this pressure and kicked back to take the spoils at the close.

16 Lions took 22 Bos players – Lions Pride you can’t beat it. Massive thanks to the new boys, great game by all, man of the match goes to Greg
