Lutterworth came out in the second half attacking well and took the lead with the first try of the game. Lions kept battling with John Turland and Sam Davies getting in the driving. Rugby Lions Under 14’s - 21 points v Nuneaton Under 14’s 10 points Nuneaton’s forwards are awesome but this simply spurred Lions on and although Nuns attacked from the kick-off Lions defence held firm. Play ebbed and flowed with first Nuns and then Lions on top but Lions began to take advantage of the conditions and Zac Baldwin broke clear twice to run in two tries converted by Harry Parsons. After the break Nuns pinned Lions in their own 22 for long periods but heroic defence and some poor options restricted Nuns to two hard worked unconverted tries. Rugby’s hard working forwards then won the ball on their own 22 and linking with their backs, worked their way up field where Will Tuite-Dalton scored a great try converted by Harry Parsons. What a massive contest, played with skill and pace by two very good teams – the coaches could not choose a man of the match as all 17 players were heroes.
Also a late report for 15/03/09
Rugby Lions u15 31 v Oadby Wyggestonians 12 Rugby made hard work of this victory as they struggled to retain possession up front. It was the Lions backs who did all the damage. George Williams scored a classic wingers try when he broke down the blind side of a scrum using his superior pace. Harry Ellis added another soon afterwards after great ball handling by Tierney and Clarke. OW’s fought back with a try after Rugby missed tackles in the forwards. The Lions hit straight back when Williams added 2 more tries and both converted . No 8 Wagstaff added Rugby’s fifth try from close range which Tierney converted. OW’s scored late on but could not deny the Lions another victory. Overall a lacklustre performance from Rugby who did just enough to win the game. Harder and more physical games will follow which Rugby will have to step up to the mark upfront.
