Rugby Lions U13s v Towcester U13s

The Under 13s continued their winning streak with a convincing win over Towcester last Sunday.

In cold blustery conditions they made the most of Ciaran Wardle’s speed on the wing. The first try came about through some excellent passing amongst the backs to release Ciaran who outsprinted his opposite number. The second try came from a fantastic box kick from scrum half Oliver Jones which Ciaran chased and touched down behind the Towcester goal line. Just before half time the visitors scored a well deserved try after continued pressure on the Rugby Defence.

In the second half Ciaran added to his tally with a well taken try following some swift passing amongst the backs. Soon after Daniel Hunter used his head and took a quick penalty to catch Towcester off guard and before they could respond the ball was out to the wing again with Ciaran sprinting home to score his fourth try of the match and to take the final score to 20-5.

Rugby Lions U14s – 22 points v Towcester U14s - 10 points

Towcester roared into an early lead with an unconverted try but Rugby, fighting against the strong downfield wind, rain and cold worked their way into contention and after a period of sustained pressure Ryan Masters drove over for the equalising score.  By now Rugby were operating at their usual efficiency and scored two great tries, the first from a Zac Baldwin kick ahead, ruck, offload and final sprint from James Scott and the second from Dan Martin after the ball passed through 5 pairs of hands and three phases.

Towcester are no pushovers though and scored their second try after a prolongued spell of pressure.  Dan Martin completed the scoring with his second try converted by Harry Parsons and although the whole squad played well in difficult conditions Dan pipped Will Tuite-Dalton and Ben Warman for the man of the match award.

Towcester 20 v Rugby Lions 29

The Lions started the game well winning plenty of possession but failing to put points on the board. It was Towcester who scored 15 points in the 1st half taking advantage of Lions mistakes and a strong wind and sloping pitch.

It took Rugby 2 minutes to score when the forwards won quick ruck ball and the back span the ball wide for Tom Findley to score , Jack Tierney adding the 2 points. Williams added another score soon afterwards after he had outpaced his winger again to score a well worked try. Again Jack adding the conversion. With Rugby totally dominant up front the back enjoyed lots of quick ball which they used to great effect. Matt Gatley scored out wide to put the Lions in the lead. Replacement winger Chris scored a great try after Tierney chipped through for Chris to score. Tierney added the conversion. Towcester fought back with a try late on after pressure on the Lions try line. With minutes left Rugby were awarded a scrum 10 meters out , Wagstaff picked up from the base and drove over leaving 4 Towcester defenders in his wake.

Probably the best the lions have played this season. Great srummaging , rucking , handling gave victory to Rugby.
