Jack Cave playing at fly half passed it out to Carwardine to score Lions second of the match. Great tackling by Pocknell who was duly rewarded with a try which was set up by forwards Trafford Warwick, Carwardine and Jupp winning great ball from the scrum. Lions had one more try which came from a line out Pocknell off loaded to Carwardine for his second of the match. Game 2: Rugby Lions U10s - 6 v Kenilworth U10s - 0 Kenilworth started the game but Lions managed to turn over the ball with Jobie off loading to Carwardine who went over to score. Matty Tildesley was constantly trying to rip the ball from the Kenilworth hands. A well thought switch move between Scott and Carwardine made valuable yardage. Kenilworth were really pressing the Lions defence but they stood strong to everything Kenilworth were throwing at them. Zak Wright was making some good supporting runs from deep. The Forward line of Oran Aske-Haley, Carwardine and Scott were in fine form. Great pressing from Lions who managed to back Kenilworth over their try line fumbled the ball for Mikey Atkinson to score his first of the day. Bailie picked up the ball from his own half and somehow managed to drive himself all the way for a great try. With Lions smashing through Kenilworths defence there were three more tries before the end of the game, scored by Atkinson, Carwardine and Tildesley.
Kenilworth U11s - 19 points v Rugby Lions U11s – 19 points From the start the Lions backs combined well, a great switch move starting with Tom Doherty allowed Ed Hands to burst though the Kenilworth defensive line, only a last gasp tackle stopped the move. Kenilworth took the lead early on but were soon pegged back as the Lions pushed forward and scored three tries two from Rory Wagstaff and first of the season for Lewis Bloxam. The Lions pack was in exceptional form, well done to forwards Will Davis, Rory Wagstaff, Oliver O’Connor, Liam Deery, Harry Turnock-Rogers and scrum-half Liam Wardle . Oliver Howes and James Stewart on the wings and Rory Campbell at full back played well with some fantastic tackling in defence. Despite two break-away tries from Kenilworth who deservedly drew level in the last few minutes the Lions produced their best rugby of the season and a tremendous performance was marked by an all round improvement in the teams tackling and recycling of the ball. Well done lads!!
Rugby Lions U12s - 0 v Kenilworth U12s – 38 This was a hard fought encounter between two committed teams. The two forward lines going toe to toe for much of the game. Kenilworth took the upper hand and seemed to be able to work the openings better than the Lions pack, despite some desperate tackling by the Lions backs. Kenilworth managed to run in two converted tries before half time. The second half again saw Kenilworth making the most of the chances, constantly pushing the Lions back. Some great last ditch tackles and some desperate defending by the Lions prevented Kenilworth from completely breaking the Lions hearts. A lot of positive points to be taken from this game. Mainly that the lads did not give up the chase, despite the big score line. Squad: Kezia Bull, Lucas Gregory, Lewis Arbuthnott, Jack Worrall-Soper, Aaron Martin, Joe Cullum, Ollie Smith, Jack Swift, Jordan MacDonald, Thomas Price, Dan Howells and man of the match Mitchell Hughes
Rugby Lions U13s – 19 points v Kenilworth U13s – 7 points Lions turned in a strong performance against their visitors Kenilworth. Kenilworth started strongly and Rugby had to defend their lines for the first 10 minutes. However after a rare foray into the Kenilworth half the lads were awarded a penalty just within the Kenilworth 22. Chris Easton saw an opportunity and quickly took the penalty catching the opposition by surprise and running in the first try which was subsequently converted by Oliver Jones. Just before half time the backs moved the ball along the line to release Ciaran Wardle who shot down the right wing like a rocket to run in number 2 which Oliver converted. In the second half Ciaran managed to side step his opposite number to run in his second of the day but unfortunately the conversion went wide. Kenilworth were keen to get a score on the board and with minutes remaining their number 8 picked up the ball from the scrum and ran through several Lions players to obtain a consolation try which was converted to leave the final score 19-7 to Rugby.
Rugby Lions U14s – 36 points v Kenilworth U14s - 12 points Rugby and Kenilworth served up a spectacle but Rugby’s overall strength told as every player displayed discipline and skill. Pressure and controlled aggression prevented Kenilworth from functioning and earned opportunities for their own strike runners. The first period was close but Tom Swindell broke for a try converted by Zac Baldwin however the middle and final periods belonged to Rugby. The pack were rampant (particularly the back row) and Rich Bannister was quick and efficient for Zac Baldwin and Jackson Hughes (twice) to score either side of Kenilworth’s first try. Kenilworth threatened and Rugby were forced into 4 try saving tackles from Jonny Ure, Kyle Webster, Will Tuite-Dalton and Rory Holmes but Rugby rallied to score again through Will Tuite-Dalton and Tom Swindell. Kenilworth scored at the end but the game was won and Rugby finished on the attack. Ryan Masters was voted Man of the Match for his immense performance.
