| Rugby Lions Under
10’s at Broad Street Festival
Played 4: Won 2 - Drew 1 - Lost 1 Rugby Lions showed their strength in the squad as they took this opportunity to include a number of new players in the match squad. All players acquitted themselves well. For the second consecutive tournament Lions finished in second place, with only two try’s conceded throughout the day and Jordi Pocknell going over with 5 try’s out of the 7 scored. Versus Coventrians Won 2 – 0: After a scrappy first half, Jordi Pocknell broke the deadlock with his trademark storming run to score in the corner. After some good mauling and scrummaging the Lions began to relax with Jordi scoring his second of the day. In attack Ran Scott showed some excellent running, whilst in defence Jamie Carwardine showed his tackling power. Lions ran out comfortable winners. Versus Kenilworth Won 4 – 0: Jordi Pocknell scored a hat-trick of try’s in this one sided affair. Tom Bailie showed his attacking skill with a great run to then pass to Ran Scott for him to make an easy score. A fired up Robert Jupp showed his strength in the scrummage and in his driving at the ruck. The forwards of Ben Clayton, Oliver Lee, Robert Jupp and Trafford Warwick dominated their opposite numbers. Versus Lutterworth: Lost 0 – 1 Lions met the only other unbeaten side in the tournament but went down to a solitary try in this fiercely competitive game. Versus Broad Street: Draw 1 – 1 A tired Lions struggled against the hosts but came away with a creditable draw. The highlights were the tackling of Jamie Carwardine and Mikey Atkinson with Tom Bailie scoring a try on his debut. All Lions players left this tournament with credit. The players are growing in confidence and must now try to achieve their personal and team goals to achieve what they are capable of. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rugby Lions U14s - 71 points v Daventry RFC U14s - 5 points (Development Game) Rugby travelled to near neighbours Daventry for a Development game in near perfect conditions and their greater experience and physical size resulted in 12 tries scored against 1 conceded but the final score in these games is less important than the style of play. Both sides strived hard to play quality rugby football and Daventry defended with great heart and skill throughout whilst Rugby dominated possession, supported well and ran straight, hard and fast. Rugby’s try scorers were Grant Northcott (2), Jonny Ure (2), Kyle Webster (2), Will Tuite-Dalton (2), Rich Bannister, Tom Swindell, Zac Baldwin, Dan Martin. Harry Parsons kicked 6 conversions and Rich Bannister kicked 2 conversions. Grant Northcott was narrowly voted man of the match under pressure from Stitch Loydall, Zac Baldwin and Dan Martin. Stand in referee Des Holmes had a brilliant game as you would expect but he was a bit harsh on Zac Baldwin who could have scored another two tries.
