Rugby Lions Mini-Junior Match Reports 5th Oct 08

Rugby Lions hosted their 17th Annual Lions Mini Rugby festival on Sunday 5th October. Teams from Burton, Wolverhampton, Ampthill, Luton and Old Northants made the trip to Webb Ellis Road, the home of Rugby Football. Despite the weather conditions an enjoyable day was had by all.

Rugby Lions U11’s: Despite not getting the results against quality opposition the performance overall was positive.  The Lions with many new players produced some good rugby and confidence grew as the tournament progressed.

Marshalled by the tough tackling Ross Smilie at fullback debutants Tom Smith and Harry Turnock-Rogers showed aggression in tackles and speed on the wings whilst Ed Hands and James Stewart made numerous good runs from the centres.

The half back pairing of Liam Wardle and Tom Doherty continued to feed the backs with the second row pairing of Lewis Bloxam and Jake Bramley battling manfully to secure ball for the team.

Pack leader Will Davies showed determination with Rory Wagstaff blasting holes in the defence whenever he got the ball supported by fellow prop Liam Deery.

A tough start and excellent attitude of the team bodes well for the rest of the season.
