Rugby lions maintained their recent fine level of performance to record a second successive win with an irresistible display that had the crowd happily enthusing about this young team that seems to be growing up before their very eyes.

On a fast pitch, Lions certainly had too much pace in the backs for a very tall but less mobile Hull side to cope with.

But the quality in the performance ran right through the Lions side with the pack securing quick ball through their aggressive and efficient work at the breakdown, the backs linking together in quick-passing moves and everyone putting their bodies on the line with a non-stop tackling effort.

And in charge of it all, fly half Jack Green showed his all-round skills with an eye-opening display of kicking, running and tackling - plus a drop goal added for good measure.

Lloyd Warner and James Cameron kicked early penalties but from then on it was Rugby almost all the way.

The first try came from a slick move following a lineout on the left, lock Andy Weaver forcing the ball over the touchdown by the clubhouse.

A burst of scoring just before the break gave Lions a comfortable lead going into the interval.

Warner typically supplied the last pass for wing Tom Harris to score, Warner also adding a fine conversion.

Then came Green’s drop goal before Jeff Gregson ran a fast-motion replay of his interception try a week earlier at Preston Grasshoppers, Warner’s extras making it 25-3 at the break.

Hull were a stiffer proposition in the second half but were forced into making a continuous stream of errors by the pressure the tigerish Lions were applying at every opportunity.

It helped that the impressive Warner showed his footballing ability with a delightful chip over the Hull defence and was left to score at will for 30-3 after 46 minutes.

The visitors’ frustration was clearly growing as they found it impossible to free themselves from Lions’ clutches, even when giant flanker Alex Campbell twice appeared to have the line at his mercy.

Rugby’s spirited attitude meant someone got back to haul him down each time and the danger was cleared.

Hull back row Dan Cook was then sent off for a punch and Lions went on to complete the scoring when Justin Parker took a quick penalty and engineered the gap for fellow replacement Joss Andrews to score.

Rugby Lions: Warner, Gregson, Goode, Reed, Harris, Green, Barker, Williams, Price, Pateman, Weaver, Braband, Saunders, Nash, Walton. Reps: Warrilow, Andrews, Parker, Burchnall, Kolakowski
