All matches played 14th February.
Match One - Rugby Lions Under 12’s Lions 15 Birmingham and Solihull 5 Lions were hit by injuries and holiday absences that meant some eight players were unavailable for selection this weekend. Despite this shortage of players the Lions produced their best display of the season in terms of effort & attitude and played some fine attacking rugby. The Lions forwards were in for a physical battle and had to fight for every ball and each metre gained on the pitch. Led by pack leader Liam Deery the young Lions showed real character up front. A front row of Corey, Big Ol and Reece stood up to the challenge and won their fair share of ball with Jamie Maunder scoring his first try for the Lions from the second row. Waggy at number eight was a constant threat to the opposition and made some great runs capped of with a fine try.
Match Two - Rugby Lions Under 12’s Lions 15 Birmingham & Solihull 25 This match was very hard fought with a number of stoppages and injuries. The whole team had to stand up to the challenge, which they did with great determination. Lions recovered well from conceding three quick tries at the beginning of the match to keep pegging back the opposition with Waggy scoring a hat-trick. With only four regular backs the Lions had to play in a number of positions and cover a lot of ground. Tom Doc at scrum half worked well with the forwards to move the ball and allow both Ed and James to make some dazzling runs with the ball moving the width of the pitch through excellent passing and support play. Man of the match this week was Oliver Howes who had his best game for the Lions, playing in a number of positions he ran, tackled and kicked excellently to keep the team moving despite getting some close attention from the opposition hooker. Well-played Ollie and all the team for an excellent effort.
Rugby Lions U13's - 22 vs. 5 -
Birmingham & Solihull U13's
What a difference a week makes, 21 players and our turn to lend the opposition a couple. The Lions started very strongly and moved the ball between forwards and backs effortlessly and with quality play like this it wasn't long before they rattled up 22 points mixing intelligent attacking play with determined defence. However it wasn't all one way traffic and in the second half B&S played some very strong Rugby to score a try of their own and ensure the Lions remained scoreless. However the Lions defence proved to be too good for B&S to breach more than once and the win was never in doubt. Well done to all of the lads who took their turn playing for B&S. Man of the Match was Aaron for a fine all round performance.
Rugby Lions Under 14s vs Banbury
The lads engineered a convincing victory over Towcester last Sunday - the final score was 40 - 14.
Jack Bayliss scored the first try following sterling work from the forwards and Chris Easton kicked a good conversion. Chris had several others, some from quite wide out. The score at halftime was 19 – 0 and Towcester worked hard to come back at Rugby in the second half.
The forwards were playing very well with Conor Deery shining in the lineouts and the threequarters were running the ball and getting it to Luke Townsend and Ciaran Wardle who outpaced their opposite numbers by using the width of the field. The threes went so well because the pack were rucking well and Ollie Jones had a very good game at scrumhalf getting the ball away quickly. The other tries were scored by Chris Easton, Ciaran Wardle, Luke Townsend and Jack Taylor
