Sunday 1st November Rugby Lions Under 13’s - 24 points v Broad Street RFC Under 13’s - 19 points
On a wet and blustery day more suited to staying in bed rather than playing Rugby the U13's came up against a big, strong Broad Street side.
Playing with the wind, rain and slope Street used their much larger forwards to drive into the Lions defence but they were met with some resolute tackling knocking them back time and again. Such was the excitement of the first half that the coaches failed to record who scored the tries (sorry lads you know who you are) but at half time Lions were only just behind 10 - 12.
Playing with the elements and with the big guys from Street getting tired the Lions started to win the battle in the loose and started to feed out a steady stream of good quick ball for their electric backs to show what they could do. The large crowd were soon rewarded with a typical long range effort from Swifty, quickly followed up by a strong forward push over being finished off by Tom. With both conversions successfully kicked by Aaron the Lions had a lead they were never to relinquish although Street continued to play some excellent rugby and were rewarded with a consolation try a few minutes from the end.
Despite the atrocious weather both sides tried to play attractive running rugby with the ball being passed along the lines of both teams whenever possible and they should be fully congratulated for the way in which they approached the game both in attitude and execution.
Final score, 24 - 19 to the Lions, their 3rd straight win...now if only they could remember to hold the ball in two hands and pass it before they get tackled, just like they do in training, the crowd might not be biting their nails so much at the end of the match!
