Rugby Lions Under 9's V Alcester under 9's

Rugby Lions 80-10 Alcester (16 tries -2 tries)

A bright sunny morning saw the magnificent seven Lions players face up to a full squad Alcester team. A very much depleted lions borrowed a player from their hosts  to allow an 8 a side match of 20 minutes each way. After a shuffle of positions and playing the loan player on the wing, the young Lions torn into an Alcester team. All the pre-season training and continual practising of moves from both the forwards and backs paid off. The team played with self belief and most importantly as a TEAM, the ball travelled through the hands with some slick passing. Every player played  there part in tackling, rucking & mauling, with the interchange of play between the forwards & backs there to see for all. For those parents watching on the sidelines it was like watching “total rugby” with every move being executed whether it was in defence or attack. The players were: Solomon Cave, Liam Green, Sam Spark, Jonathan Dallimore, Karl Stott, Harry Atkinson and Jack Mabey.

Rugby Lions Under 13’s - 34 points          vs.              Alcester RUFC Under 13’s - 0 points

The under 13's took to the pitch resplendent their new playing shirts kindly sponsored by Cleaver Scientific and once again came up against significantly larger opposition. Unfazed the Lions showed what total commitment and team spirit can do to overcome pure physical size with the forwards leading the way with stunning tackling, rucking and mauling from start to finish. Indeed their total dominance in these areas created time and space for the ever dangerous backs to strut their stuff. Swifty bagged two fine tries whilst Kaedan claimed his first hat-trick of the season with some sublime running lines. Not to let the backs hog the scoring Tom drove over in typically strong number 8 style and with another forward Danny winning man of the match honours finished even between the back and forwards. Special mention to Jason who played both in the centre and at hooker to show just what a versatile and skilful player his is. All our thoughts are with Luke Deas who needed to pull out of the team just before kick off due to medical concerns, we all wish him a speedy return.

 Rugby Lions Under 15’s - 12 points          v              Peterborough RUFC Under 15’s - 5 points

Lions started strongly to dominate line-outs through James Saunders and Mitch Wells and fast ball from the rapidly improving Ben Hyslop released Jackson Hughes on several penetrating runs.  Peterborough’s defense held firm until Will Tuite-Dalton broke from half way leaving players in his wake to score with Jonny Ure converting.  Weakened by late withdrawals Lions welcomed back Zac Baldwin and Tom Reeve - both made an immediate impact – Man of the match Tom, fed Zac who ran strongly to score with players hanging on.  The remainder of the match was hard fought with territory shared but Peterborough scored a final consolation try from a close in penalty.  Two weeks ago a vastly depleted Lions squad honoured a fixture with BBOB’s in appalling conditions - special thanks go to the following lads for standing tall to represent Lions in very difficult circumstances: Stitch Loydall, James Scott, Mitch Wells, Toby Inskip, James Saunders, Josh Clarke, Harry Parsons, Ben Hyslop, Fraser O’Brien, Ryan Masters, Lewis Dodds.
