Rugby Lions under 10’s played in the Under 10's prima cup at the weekend and this is how they got on, well done to all the players who took part.

Rugby U10 v Barker Butts 0-1

The match was a real slog and after a sustained period of pressure Barker Butts got the first try. A try saving tackle from Tom Partridge kept the game tight and there was little movement in the rest of the half. Excellent scrums involving John Turnbull, Aidan Wardle and Jack Woolliscroft stopped the BB’s from pushing further and Rugby were unlucky not to get the equaliser

Rugby U10 v Sutton Coldfield 1-2

Interesting and tough match with Rugby players falling like flies at one point. Aidan Wardle got the equaliser in the first half but the free flowing movements which were so evident last weekend were not forthcoming. Rugby were kept pinned down and eventually Sutton Coldfield took the match

Rugby U10 v Old Leamingtonians 0-2

This was yet another tough match for the lads and in the first half the OL’s took the advantage from a scrum to get their first try. A second try sealed Rugby’s fate but it was by no means a walk over and star tackler Ben Downing is worth his weight in gold.

Rugby U10 v Kenilworth 3-2

Surprising what results a team talk can give. The lads came out looking for a win and they played their hearts out. The first half saw some brilliant teamwork from Tom Partridge and Jack Woolliscroft to give them the first try. Kenilworth was left rocking on their heels when the same manoeuvre led to the second try after a brilliant tackle from Niall.  The second half saw Kenilworth quick off the mark, but Rugby answered with more good teamwork and a storming run from Oliver Goodsir gave Rugby their third try and a well deserved win.

Nuneaton U13's - 79    vs.    Rugby Lions - 0

The under 13's came up against a massive and very well drilled Nuneaton side who proved to be unstoppable. With Nuneaton scoring almost at will the match very quickly became more about personal pride, performance and heart than the final score and the majority of the boys proved themselves up to the task, playing right to the end with as much dignity as they could muster. Sam, Mitch, Lewis & Luke "blue socks" all deserve special mention in their efforts to prove "the bigger they are, the harder they fall", but in the end Nuneaton were simply too good.

Occasionally results like this happen and the measure of the team is how they react and come back; the coaches have no doubt that the majority of the boys will be keen to work on their individual and team skills at training and will be looking to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.

Rugby Lions Under 14s vs Nuneaton

The lads engineered a convincing victory over Nuneaton last Sunday in cold blustery conditions.

The forwards fed the backs well but the lads found it hard to penetrate the Nuneaton defence. The deadlock was broken after 20 minutes when Ashley Moore charged down a kick and managed to touch the ball down to take the score to 5-0. However the visitors soon hit back with a converted try.

In the second half Nuneaton stretched their lead to 5-14 with another converted try. The lads could see that they had the beating of the opposition and soon narrowed the gap when Ashley managed to pick the ball up just short of the Nuneaton try line and powered over. With the conversion going over the score was back to 12-14.

With 10 minutes to go Nuneaton forced Rugby back inside their own 22 but were completely shattered when Josh Cook cleared the ball well downfield and with excellent chasing from Paddy Forde, he managed to collect the ball and go over to put Rugby into the lead at 19-14. There were 2 quick tries just before the final whistle from Luke Townsend and Chris Easton and will both conversions going between the posts the final score finished 33-14.
