Sunday 11th October Rugby Lions Under 15’s - 30 points v Stoke Old Boys RFC Under 15’s - 7 points
After a week’s break ‘paintballing’, Lions continued their previous good form in spite of disruption through injury and unavailability to control much of this game in impressive style. The forwards and backs combined well in the first and last quarters with strong running and sure handling that belied the wet conditions. Will Tuite-Dalton, James Scott and Ben Warman crossed in the first half and Josh Clarke, Jackson Hughes and Ryan Masters in the second - rather unusually, the majority of Lions tries came from the pack which just emphasized their strong display. Harry Parsons was voted man of the match for his all round performance and thanks must go to Stitch Loydall, Grant Northcott, James Scott and Kyle Webster for alternatively making up the numbers for Stoke who were two short on the day. Much to the annoyance of his team mates, Kyle Webster scored for Stoke whilst ‘on loan’.
Rugby Lions u'16 34 v Kenilworth u'16 10
On a wet day Kenilworth's early
phases were resitricted to long kicks which full back Webb returned
with interest, whilst the Lions went for an offloading attack.
Kenilworth had the upper hand in the rucking whilst Ollie Machon
took a number of balls against the head in the scrums. The Lions
scored first from m a set piece move and Sam Brown dived over in the
corner to score the first try. The Lions had most of the ball and
from a ruck a chip from fly-half Jack Tierney sent George Williams
away to score. Kenilworth retalliated after half time with a score
from the scrum before Greg Matthews burst clear from a ruck to score
beneath the posts. Kenilworth then put on the pressure and from a
successive series of scrums they drove the Lions back and broke off
the pack to score. The Lions backs then used a slick switch for Jack
Riley burst to through the defence, and Sam Brown dived into the
corner for his second try of the day. The mauruading Matthews
grabbed two more tries for a well earned hat-trick.
