Rugby Lions Under 14s- 7 vs Market Bosworth -38
The Under 14s had a physical encounter with Market Bosworth last Sunday and lost their first match of the season.
From the initial whistle Rugby came under fierce pressure as the Bosworth forwards foraged for ball in the breakdowns and fed their very quick backs. Rugby were soon 3 converted tries down but they rallied towards the end of the half and were buoyed up again when Luke Townsend received a ball on the wing and outpaced the opposition to land a try right underneath the posts. With the conversion going over the score at half time was 7-21.
In the second half Rugby came upon renewed pressure and Bosworth capitalised upon some handling errors to run in another 3 tries. When the final whistle went the score was 7-38 and the lads will hope to learn from the experience as they travel way to Oadby Wigs next weekend.
Rugby Lions Under 15’s - 20 points v Syston RFC Under 15’s - 8 points
Surprisingly Lions were short of players even though a number had not indicated unavailability, anyway Lions borrowed a scrum half and set about Syston with relish. For 10 minutes Lions defended strongly and then worked the ball right for Jackson Hughes to sprint clear for a fine long distance solo effort before Grant Northcott crossed for a second. Syston responded with a typical forwards effort and then kicked 3 points from a penalty. The match was tight, but when they were allowed to play Lions wrapped up the match with further tries from Ben Bramley and finally Tom Swindell. Ben Warman was voted Man of the match for his immense workrate but Fraser O’Brien was also close, scoring a perfectly good disallowed try whilst playing out of position, as were action men Jackson Hughes and James Scott.

Bosworth
Market Bosworth had the majority share of the ball as a result of
their more aggressive rucking, but the Lions backs held firm in the
tackle. Bosworth took the lead with quick hands through the backs
setting up a ruck from which the forwards were able to crash over.
This was followed in quick succession by two more tries as the Lions
backs gave their opposition too much space into which they could run
and offload. This proved to be a feature of the game which cost the
Lions dear.
The Lions replied with a score after a short period of pressure.
Sam Brown stepped up to intercept a relieving pass and stepped over
the line unhindered. Jack Tierney added the extras. The second half
was a closer affair
Debutant Duduza Zimba came on for his first ever game as a prop. In the loose he broke tackles and put in a contender for "tackle of the season" on the Bosworth left wing. It was Bosworth who finished stronger and rounded off the game with two tries, one of which was almost stopped witha crunching tackle from George Williams, but Bosworth were the deserved winners on the day.
